What "product panel" means
Under New Zealand's Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013, every Financial Advice Provider (FAP) must publish a Public Disclosure Statement under section 431 covering — among other things — the product providers they are appointed to distribute. FinanceAdvisersNZ mirrors these PDSes and parses the product-panel section into structured data.
Being on a FAP's product panel does not mean every adviser at that FAP advises on every listed provider — individual advisers may be scoped to a subset of the panel depending on their licensing and specialty. The panel describes the FAP's firm-wide product reach, not any individual adviser's specific scope of advice.
Methodology + limits
- Source: Mirror of Smartlife Financial Solutions Limited's Public Disclosure Statement filed under FMC Act 2013 s431.
- Extraction: Product-provider names are extracted from PDS markdown by Claude (LLM-extracted, confidence tier C). For original wording, refer to the FAP's own publication via the FSPR register entry.
- Name normalisation: We collapse known name variants (e.g. "ASB" vs "ASB Bank") via a hand-curated alias list. Variants we don't yet know about render as separate chips — treat counts as approximate.
- Freshness: PDS data is re-checked periodically. See the FAP profile page for the version date.
- Coverage: FinanceAdvisersNZ currently has PDS data on file for ~107 of ~2,444 NZ FAPs (~4.5%). Coverage grows as we ingest more PDSes.
